Movie News – Week of 1/20

So, it’s been a while since I’ve done one of these. Holidays, and I don’t expect anyone to actually use me as a news source. So,…

News that caught my eye

Dune News! Wormsign! We have Dune wormsign news!

First Dune Reaction Compares It To Lord Of The Rings And Original Star Wars Trilogy

Again, only sort of news.

Apparently they screened some footage and opinions leaked. The comparison to LOTR and Star Wars isn’t a comment on how the movie looks, but on how the viewer perceived the impact to be. The guy said that it was “grimy realism mixed with dreamy imagery.” I think that sounds like a really good mix for the world of Dune where drugs flow in the form of spice.

Still, it would be nice to have some freaking images. Maybe arranged in order over about 90 seconds. Set to music even. Perhaps with some oblique voiceover that hints at epic stuff. That’d be cool to have.

Disney Drops Fox Name, Will Rebrand as 20th Century Studios, Searchlight Pictures

This doesn’t surprise me at all. Why would Disney keep the Fox name on a huge subsidiary?

I still don’t like Disney owning the Fox library. Get ready for everything remotely popular to end up in the Disney vault.

Quentin Tarantino Will Write and Direct All 5 Bounty Law TV Episodes

I knew Tarantino would find other ways to be creatively productive. He can throw himself into this for a year or so and then come back for his tenth film.

I fully expect him to direct more than ten, to be honest. He’s too young (56) and too eager to create while too in love with film.

Quentin Tarantino unlikely to direct Star Trek film

At least he won’t be directing a Star Trek film, though.

Great creatives should do their own thing. A good parallel might be Christopher Nolan wanting to direct a Bond film. Sure, he’d probably make a great Bond film, but I’d rather him do something like InterstellarTenet looks cool.

Trailers that caught my eye:

This is going to be terrible, but I’m kinda looking forward to it.

The first one was pretty good. This one seems to be trying to intelligently build the world out. Maybe it’ll be decent.
